The Chapel Medical Group - Wednesday
Wow !! That was the word for the day. The Lord moved in a mighty way today in so many areas !!
What started as disappointment, turned into a day of rejoicing. We were preparing to see around 300 patients in an area of the city to support a local church. We were told that we would be giving out numbers, when we arrived we were told that the pastor gave out 200 numbers . He gave 100 for the AM and 100 for the afternoon. We set up and when it was time to open the gates only 9 people were at the gate. We were unable to do our normal skits, testimonies and message. Before we started we had a second adult worship center that Pastor Mark from Oakfield and Hugo, a missionary from SCORE, ran. The day started so slow that we were not sure what was happening. No lines, no urgency by the people that were coming to the clinic. It was different then any clinic that I have encountered in the 3 years that I have been here. Gradually, the people started arriving and when they did, we started seeing results that were “heavenly” !!
Many people that came to the clinic gave there lives to God and many wanted the pastor of the church to contact them and many new believers will start attending the church. I feel many were very sincere in there commitments to God as you could see their faces and how they were being effected. We attempt to allow the people to have many different ways of hearing God. We had a guitar player singing praise songs, 2 pastors preaching, a DVD presentation with a salvation message, one-on-one encounters, and a kids program. Even with all these encounters there was something even more important that had a effect on the people that attended the clinic. Showing the real (not fake) love of God by everyone in every area had a major effect as I don’t believe they see that kind of love very much.
By the end of the morning we saw 130 people. The afternoon was slower and we say just over 100 people. Also, because we were slower than expected we were able to have 6 of our people go out street witnessing and there is one other story you all should hear. One of people (Bill) is a firefighter(EMT) and when it was slow one of the missionaries offered o take him to one of the oldest firehouses in the world just to show him it. When they arrived they walked in and saw a picture of the General that runs all the fire houses in the Dominican Republic and there are 100’s. As they were walking through looking at the facility, all of a sudden they heard, “Attention”. That General showed up unannounced to the surprise of everyone there. No one in the firehouse expected to see him. With so many firehouses it could have only been God’s doing. They watched this General and the General notice the SCORE shirt on the missionary and asked if he was from SCORE. He told them it must have been God that brought them together. He requested that they come to a new firehouse that was being dedicated and that they would pray for the new firehouse in front of all the many people that would be there. They asked what day it would be and the General said today at 12 noon. This was at 10 AM. They came back to the clinic and worked an hour and they headed over and prayed for the firehouse and the people. The General said very good things also at the dedication.
I guess you see why Wednesday was the “WOW” day. There are many stories that we could not fit in this update from this week and we are praising God for what he is doing !!
