Mt. Zion Baptist Church – Tuesday & Wednesday
Well, we have had quite an eventful couple of days. Sorry we didn’t get an update posted yesterday! Tuesday morning we had a schedule change and went into the capital – Santo Domingo – and shopped and toured and ate. Some of us even ate KFC! The capital is lovely and very historic. The DR was the first landing spot of Christopher Columbus. We also got to see the oldest church in the western hemisphere. It was a beautiful day – the breeze blew the entire time we were in the city. We also passed out tracts while we walked and it was amazing how willing people were to receive a tract.
After lunch at SCORE on Tuesday we headed out to Los Fundos, a sugarcane village in which Nathan and Erica are planting a church. We attended their church service where Dwayne had the opportunity to preach the gospel and we had Sunday School with the children. It was a great time of worship. It is so amazing to worship in another language and another culture and to know that God understands it all! We had SCORE challenge night on Tuesday and were presented an amazing message of sacrifice by Pastor Abby. He challenged us all to give ourselves wholly to God, no matter what he is asking of us. We also were able to hear Wings of Morning sing praises to our Lord. Wings of Morning are a singing group of young people out of First Baptist Woodstock in Atlanta. They were a blessing!
This morning we awoke to sick team members. We have six team members right now who are not feeling well. Please, please pray that they will heal and feel much better by tomorrow. Dr. Bob a SCORE missionary here in the DR has been doctoring on them so hopefully they will all feel well soon! We traveled back to Los Fundos to perform a foot washing ceremony and distribute athletic shoes in the village. We also distributed the dresses and short sets sewn by the ladies in Allentown. It was amazing to see the smiles on many faces as children received new shoes and new clothes. It was a special time for all of us, and amazing to see the humility of our group as each member washed the feet of the villagers. There were at least three ladies who prayed to receive Christ today during the foot washing ceremony! The distribution took an entire day. We had sandwiches and chips in the village and arrived back just in time to head to El Sueno for pizza!
We have one more day to work here in the DR and then we will be on our way back to America! There will be mixed feelings as we leave the DR Friday. Longing to be home and see family, but a desire to continue to serve the Dominicans. God has been good and faithful to us on this trip and wonderful seeds have been planted. It has been amazing to witness God’s protection and God’s work in this land.
