Metro East Lutheran – June 26
Today was probably the most amazing day of the trip for us. We started out by going to a day care where high risk kids from 9 months to 12 years are able to go when they are not at school. One of the directors of this day care is good friends with Ellie and Katie Keirn, so that is how we got to go there. We thoroughly enjoyed coloring, painting faces, and playing with the children as we talked to them about Jesus’ love for them. We gave them bracelets that tell the story of the Gospel as well.
After that we went to the grocery store to buy more food for the homeless. We were not prepared for what we were about to see. It was nothing like the first time we fed the homeless. We went to a place outside of San Jose called Los Guido. This is a very poor community where many Nicaraguan refugees go to live. We witnessed the poorest living conditions most of us had ever seen, but we were very encouraged and had hope for the people living there after hearing them talk to us about their faith in God and after meeting the Pastor who is doing great ministry there. We gave away 10 bags of food while we were there, but we definitely felt like they witnessed to us more than we witnessed to them.
After our trip to Los Guido we returned to the Villa for supper and for our last Bible study together. We’re getting ready to enjoy a concert from some of our own group members and then maybe we’ll go to sleep for a while before we have to wake up at 3:15 to leave tomorrow morning.
God has blessed us in many ways on this trip. To Him be the glory! Amen.
