Short Term Trips Long Term Effects

Central Baptist Church, Va – Monday

dsc02216We had another great day today here in the Dominican Republic.  We spent the morning ministering to disabled children in an orphanage called Casa de Luz.  This was a very humbling, yet rewarding experience.   We simply spent time with the children, holding, them talking to them, and playing with them.  They immensely enjoyed the music we played.  This was a picture perfect example of ministering to the “least of these” as the Bible talks about.  Simply through giving these children some one-on-one attention and love we were able to share the compassion of Christ.  I believe we will see them in heaven one day, and perhaps they might even come up to us and thank us for showing them God’s love.

Our afternoon ministry consisted of passing out tracts and promoting a concert that we and another group were working together to put on in the neighborhood near the SCORE Complex.  We walked down the street in our bright orange shirts and passed out tracts to anyone we saw.  Believe me when I say that no one got away without getting a tract from one ofdsc023001 our team members.  (At one point Heather and TJ were racing to try and get to the next person!)  We were able to open the concert with the hand bells and then perform our drama.  David, Caitlin, Heather, Cody and Jeremiah put on their best performance of the trip for the crowd gathered to watch in the street.  We finished the evening supporting the singing team, which finished the concert, and passing out more tracts on the way back to the SCORE Complex.  At the end of the concert an invitation was given and many children and adults indicated that they had accepted Christ as Savior!  Praise to God for those decisions, which were genuine, and we are so grateful to have been a part of it!
