Tampa Bay Bucanneers Help with Football Clinic

Quarterback Luke McCown teaches throwing techniques at Belmont Heights Little League Park on Tuesday, in Tampa, Florida.
“I’m a grown man playing a kid’s sport,” said Brian Clark, wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I just get paid for it now, and people watch us on television.”
Clark hung out with kids and taught football during a clinic for inner-city youth at Belmont Heights Little League Park in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday. Sponsored by Athletes in Action and SCORE International, the afternoon clinic involved several fifteen-minute stations manned by seven Buccaneer players teaching football fundamentals.
The men also used this opportunity to speak about their relationship with Christ. “Because Christ has let me know who I am in Him I don’t look at my faults or failures–I look at His strength,” said Clark about playing professional football. “My thing is stressing the importance of knowing your identity in or outside of Christ. Know who you are.”
Over 200 people attended the clinic, including parents of the children. Afterwards, Quarterback Luke McCown and Brian Clark gave testimonies with SCORE’s John Zeller ending the evening with a Gospel presentation. Sixty-five people made decisions for Christ.
Although Clark and his wife enjoyed living in Colorado, he said he has felt blessed since moving back to his hometown last year after a one and a half year stint with the Denver Broncos. “I’m able to do what I long to do–which is ministry,” commented Clark. “God has allowed me to play professional football for one reason and one reason only: to increase the Kingdom.”
