Public School Team On Fire For God
I took a public school’s girls volleyball team from Benton, Indiana, to Costa Rica this past summer. I knew at the end of the trip that God really worked in their lives during that trip, but it was confirmed to me this week how much of an impact the missions trip had on them.
Thursday night Fairfield High School held a community pep rally to send the volleyball team off to the state finals at Ball State University. They invited us to attend the community celebration, so we went. Little did we know that they were going to introduce us and present a shirt to us that all of the fans will be wearing at the State tournament. We were also given another shirt that was sold to raise money at the school with the intent of giving funds to the missionaries in Costa Rica and to be an encouragement to them. The most interesting part is that this is a public school, where you don’t venture into using any ‘Christian wording or logos’ on anything.
The front of the shirt says “Du Du Matango” which means something like “I will do it” or “I can do it,” On the back it says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13.
In addition to presenting us these shirts, they presented us $750 cash that they had earned by selling those shirts. We assured them that we would get it to the Costa Rican missionaries for them.
Their captain went on to say, “We are confident that the reason for our success as a team this year is due in large part to the way God worked in our lives on our missions trip to Costa Rica. We went down to impact the Costa Ricans, but found that we were the ones who were impacted the most.”
I thought it was just an awesome night. What a great testimony to the work of God and our missionaries in Costa Rica.
