G.A.P. Graduation 2009
Twenty students walked across the stage of Templo Bautista de Tibas in Costa Rica, on May 29, 2009. Each student received a diploma signifying the successful completion of the 10-month G.A.P. year program. “It was a great experience to be away for a year and give my life entirely to God,” said Tim Smith, a student from New York. “I want to continue working in missions, so I’m waiting to see where God takes me this year.”
Costa Rican G.A.P. director Noel Mata hosted the event while U.S. G.A.P. director Jeff Hackett delivered a message entitled “Carried to Jesus.”
“An atmosphere of love and support filled the church,” said Jeff about the graduation ceremony. Parents of the students attended along with local pastors and friends who have grown close to the students during their time in Costa Rica.
Student Grace Hody shared a moving testimony in Spanish while Tim Smith translated into English. Both were chosen to participate in the ceremony because of their exemplary work during the year. Before handing out the diplomas, Ron Bishop, founder of SCORE, challenged the students to give their natural abilities to God, so that He could add His supernatural power to their lives. “Attending the G.A.P. program doesn’t make for an easy year,” said Tim. “But you learn a lot and it’s worth it in the end.”
