Cornerstone University Softball - Wednesday

Greetings Everyone! Wow! What a day! After a disappointing rainout the night before, Wednesday was a very emotional day. We went to an orphanage for handicapped children in the morning. There aren’t words to express the wealth of emotion that runs through you.  One minute you are laughing at something funny one of the kids does, getting bossed around and told to sit down and play games by another child, and then you are crying because the scene is so sad and seems so helpless. We weren’t able to take pictures at all, just of the front of the building, but the images of the kids in cribs and tied to beds and in a cage will be with us forever. I work with special kids everyday at home and I saw kids with the exact same health problems and developmental disabilities I see at home everyday. The staff at the orphanage are angels sent by God to care for these “least of these”. I don’t even know how they can keep some of these kids alive without proper medical care, except for the hand of God. After the orphanage, we went to the market area again and handed out tracts on the street. Many people are receptive to see what you are handing out, and we know the Word of God does not return void. Please pray for those who took tracts. We were then treated to an amazing lunch of authentic Dominican food by Denny our SCORE missionary and interpreter. We stopped at a small “hole in the wall” and let the lady know we had 20 people coming.  She said, “come back in half an hour”, and we returned to a family style dinner with amazing rice, salad, “fried chicken”, and beef. Absolutely AMAZING! We gorged ourselves on food and then left for a ballgame. We went up into the mountains for this game and once again were amazed at what we encountered. People again everywhere. A field in shambles, set up for baseball with a pitchers mound (softball pitchers don’t use a mound), bases and basepath the wrong lengths and when they adjusted them for the girls, they had to run in half grass and half dirt. There was a huge lip where the grass of the outfield meets the dirt of the infield, at least several inches thick. (not good) =) The great news is between the Palm Beach Atlantic team who played there on Monday and our team sharing the gospel yesterday, over 75 people responded to the presentations. Wow! Denny was very excited. They have very little equipment, so PBA gave them bats, balls, and ball bags, and several of our girls gave away their cleats, and we gave away some bats and balls also. Next time we come we’ll know much better what to pack.  =) Anyway, today is ministry in the morning, a girls orphanage and then on to another village and the free time this afternoon. Thanks for your prayers!  Shari F. for the CU softball team. God Bless!
